Having a Tree Removed? Consider Paying Extra for These Useful Services

If you're planning to have a tree removed from your property, then you've probably budgeted for a simple removal, and not much else. Wait! There are a variety of extra services that are worth spending money on. If you've never had a tree removed before then you might not have considered things like stump removal, wood chipping, or log splitting. The list below will give you a clear idea of extra services you might like to purchase alongside your basic removal, as well as the benefits of each.

Stump removal

Once your tree has been removed, you'll be left with a small stump in your garden. A tree stump that's left behind can be vulnerable diseases like honey fungus, which could damage nearby plants and trees. There's no reason to risk this when you can pay a small extra fee for your tree surgeon to remove the stump immediately after felling the tree. Dealing with the stump in a timely manner means you won't run into problems down the line, and it's also likely that you'll receive a discount by packaging the stump removal together with the tree removal, rather than having the two dealt with separately.

Tree trunk removal

Most companies will charge a little extra in order to dispose of the trunk of the felled tree. This is a convenient option that won't require any effort from you. If you want to cut costs, you could ask your tree surgeon to cut the trunk into several pieces, ready for you to dispose of yourself. Make sure the pieces are a manageable size, as you don't want to pay extra for someone else to come and remove them as a result of poor planning.

Log splitting

If you have a log fire, or know someone who does, then log splitting is a great extra to ask about. The wood from your tree will be chopped into conveniently sized pieces, ready to be used on the fire. If you live in an area where firewood is widely used, you may be able to sell the logs. Leaving a few outside your property with a 'logs for sale' sign will usually generate interest in a day or two, and you'll be killing two birds with one stone by getting rid of the unwanted wood and earning a little money to go towards the cost of the tree removal.

Wood chipping

The limbs of a felled tree are often appropriate for wood chipping due to their smaller size. This can be easily carried out using a special machine that many tree service companies will own. For a small extra cost, you could have your very own wood chips, for use in gardening or garden design. This is a good option to consider if you want to make use of all parts of the felled tree.
